The film stars Sivakarthikeyan in the titular role of Raheem, a man who has to take care of his younger brother Chotu after their mother's death. Following that trauma, he develops schizophrenia and becomes delusional until he changes back into his normal self by interacting with people. It is produced jointly by Vishal Film Factory and Lyca Productions. As of February 2018, it had grossed over ₹134 crore worldwide becoming the second highest-grossing Tamil film worldwide at the time, behind Kabali (2016). The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by Santhosh Narayanan, while the songs featured in the film were composed by Sean Roldan, Dharan Kumar and Hiphop Tamizha. The film was released on 26 June 2017 along with its dubbed Telugu version "Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam".Raheem (Sivakarthikeyan) is a young man, who lives in Coimbatore with his elder brother Chotu (Vishnu Vishal). Raheem loves to sing but is not interested in education. Chotu wants him to study and get a job. Raheem's mother (Meena Vijay) passes away. She had an illness and left her husband and son alone. Chotu is a mechanic by profession, but Raheem wants him to do something else as he does nothing for the family, so he decides to leave the house with Chotu's wallet. They meet Neena (Shriya), who sings at a club in Chennai, and she accepts to take them along with her as her driver.Once they reach Chennai, Neena finds out that Raheem is a simple man and that he was not educated even though he is the son of a doctor. However, she accepts him as she finds him to be a good singer. She takes their case to her brother's boss. The boss helps the trio to stay in a studio, where they are paid for singing by taking turns. Neena realises that Raheem is suffering from schizophrenia, though Chotu does not think so. She assures Raheem that she will help him get better. They do not have food except Raman's (Vijayakumar) family who help them with meals at first, but later refuse to feed them. When their cash runs out, Neena suggests that Raheem should take off his clothes and poses as male model for money by selling the photographs of his body. Raheem poses as a model with his face covered, but when the customers come to know that the model is mentally ill, they refuse to take pictures with him. Raheem's mind becomes worse as he becomes delusional and starts acting as a woman. He does not listen to Neena and keeps on singing along wherever he goes. When Raman tries to beat Raheem, who is behaving like a woman, Neena stops Raman. Raman beats up Chotu instead and Raheem tries to fight back but gets hurt badly and falls down on the road. He is then taken home by Raman's family where he gets proper care from them for some days.
